Neighbourhood Wardens

newbury_wardens

Greenham and Clay Hill, as well as St John’s Gardens, Greenham House Gardens, City Recreation Ground, and Wash Common Recreation Ground all benefit from the presence of neighbourhood wardens.

Managed by Sovereign Housing Association and funded by West Berkshire Council, Newbury Town Council, Sovereign Housing Association, and Greenham Parish Council, we are there to help improve the quality of life in your community.

Neighbourhood wardens patrol the neighbourhood in distinctive uniforms and vehicles from 8am to 9pm Monday to Friday, and every other weekend.

What can we do to help you?

We are there for you so feel free to call us about any problems in your community.  We will be able to offer help with a wide range of problems and, if we aren’t able to deal with the issue directly, we will help you find a solution.

Our main aim is to be a highly visible presence, acting as a focal point for the community.  We will be dealing with all those issues which affect your quality of life, such as the following:

·         Helping to reduce crime and the fear of crime

·         Dealing with antisocial behavior

·         Reporting suspicious behavior

·         Discouraging drug dealing

·         Dealing with neighbourhood disputes

·         Dealing with environmental problems such as:

o   Abandoned vehicles

o   Fly-tipping

o   Graffiti

o   Vandalism

·         Reporting maintenance problems such as:

o   Street lamps which aren’t working

o   Loose paving slabs

o   Damaged drain covers

·         Reporting neighbourhood nuisance problems such as:

o   Noise

o   Dog fouling

·         Caring for the community and developing a strong sense of community spirit

·         Carrying out minor repairs to shared areas

·         Maintaining contact with vulnerable residents

·         Helping young offenders become members of the community by supervising them as they do community service

·         Acting as the ‘eyes and ears’ of the community.

We also organize community initiatives like Junior Warden schemes and table top sales as well and working with schools, youth clubs and other organized community clubs and events.

Warden schemes really do work, but we can’t achieve results alone.  We will be working very closely with many partner organizations to make your community a better place to live.  We are not police officers or security guards, but we care for your community and will work with you to help develop a cleaner, safer neighbourhood.

You can help set our priorities by raising any issues or concerns you may have through your local Residents’ Association, or Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG), or by contacting us direct.
