About CIC

Mission: It is our aim to improve the quality of life of children and their families because Every Family Matters.

The Children’s Information Centre (CIC) is an award winning, independent, registered charity providing free, impartial information, advice and assistance for families and professionals. The organisation has been working in Berkshire for over 19 years.

CIC works closely with parents, carers and professionals to support them with information regarding childcare, leisure activities and other needs in support of education.

CIC provides this service through a number of projects, with the Family Information Service (FIS) being the largest. CIC delivers the Family Information Service on behalf of Bracknell Forest, Reading and West Berkshire Councils. The FIS is a free information service for families with children aged from birth – 19 years old (up to 25 years old for children with Special Needs/ Learning Difficulties and Disabilities (LDD)) operating in Bracknell Forest, Reading and West Berkshire.

Other CIC project work includes the Children’s Opportunity Group (COG), a project developed to help children with LDD/special needs living in Reading and Bracknell Forest  to access mainstream leisure activities with the help of a trained volunteer, and several other smaller community based projects.

CIC has a dedicated and knowledgeable staff (including information officers, admin team, marketing team, management team and finance team) and is supported by an enthusiastic and proactive Board of Trustees as well as the many volunteers involved with the organisation.

CIC encourages its staff to further their development and currently 9 members of the team have achieved the NVQ level 3 for Information, Advice and Guidance.

CIC is proud to have been awarded the specialist National Association of Family Information Service (NAFIS) Quality Award as well as the universally recognised Investors in People (IIP) Award.
