What we need to do now is talk to young people and their families, and the communities directly, to ask them how we can work together to make West Berkshire a safe and happy place to be.  We need to hear what would help to make this happen, and what won’t!

We can’t promise to solve everyone’s problems but we can promise to listen and, if possible, to help them take action to change things.

The Government has a long-term vision of schools at the heart the community, open from outside traditional school hours and offering a range of locally determined activities and services. There’s no single model for an extended school – what is on offer is shaped by the needs and demands of pupils, parents and wider community.

A lot of schools are already providing extended services, but the Government wants all schools to do this so that all children and young people – and their families – can benefit wherever they live. In the coming years, the range of activities and services open to children and families at every school is going to increase.

Schools will provide access to the following:

Quality Childcare from 8am to 6pm all year round if required
A Varied Menu of Activities
Parenting Support
Swift and Easy Referral to Support Services
Community Access to school facilities

Providing these services will enable children & their families to be Safe, Healthy, Achieve Economic Wellbeing, Enjoy & Achieve and make a Positive Contribution.
